Million Memory Project

We publish books, and we help communities write their own.

We publish books by authors and artists. We also help communities and cultural organizations gather memories, research their history, make a book, and preserve the archive behind it.

Our imprints

Three imprints for three kinds of story.

Sound Archive Books

Books for artists, labels, venues, and music communities.

Appalachian Memory Project

Books about places in Appalachia, drawn from oral history.

Million Memory Project

Books a community writes together.

Why books

A book gives memory a place to live.

Books turn scattered material into something people can hold, share, revisit, and pass on.

A book can cover one artist’s career, one community’s experience, or the history of one place.

Preservation beyond the page

The book is the visible outcome. The archive is the lasting one.

Every project has an archive: the interviews, photographs, documents, captions, permissions, and source records, organized so future readers, families, and researchers can use them.

Built to last

We build our own software and partner with companies like TheirStory to organize large collections. People still decide what goes in the book.

Start a project

Have a story that belongs in a book?

We work with artists, community groups, and cultural institutions to make books with lasting impact, from gathering the first memories to printing the book and preserving the archive.
